Dr Dan Jones, Managing Director

Dan qualified with a degree in Industrial Biochemistry from the University of Limerick in 2006, spending 18 months with Stryker Biotech working on calcium tri-phosphates and bone morphogenic proteins. In 2011, Dan graduated with a PhD from the School of Engineering, University of Liverpool. The research topic for his PhD thesis related to porous titanium structures for bone in-growth applications produced by additive manufacturing and their consequential characterisation by mechanical, physical, and biological methods. He remained at the School of Engineering as a post doctorial researcher, working on an EPSRC funded study involved the design and manufacture of concept novel designs of fully porous press fit dental implants to support abutments and crowns. In 2013 Dr Jones and colleagues from Engineering and Veterinary Science established Fusion Implants, whose primary focus is research & development, design and manufacture of veterinary orthopaedic implants. Dr Jones is responsible for the running of the company, along with supervision of PhD and Master students at the University of Liverpool.

Prof. Chris Sutcliffe, Director

Prof. Chris Sutcliffe holds a personal chair in Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Liverpool (UoL), he is the UoL Lead academic for the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Laser Based Production Processes and the CDT in AM/3DP.  He is also R&D Director at Renishaw AMPD and Director of Fusion Implants. He was a founder member of the UoL IMRC and has been responsible for over £XXM of research funding including £YYM from EPSRC. He has led the AM activity at UoL since 2003. His research in both Laser and Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion has been transitioned from manufacturing science to full commercial status in application and capital equipment production.  He is an expert in machine design, process and AM applications development as evidenced by fundamental publication, IP protection and commercial exploitation.  He has 5 papers cited over 100 times and is in the top 1% of most cited outputs in the world.  He has been, or is, involved in 18 EPSRC, 10 iUK/TSB/DTi and 6 EU research projects and has garnered £1M+ of company funding. He has supervised 15 PhD students all of whom have secured positions in manufacturing. He is inventor on 19 active patents/applications and is an EPSRC college member.

Anthony Fife, Sales and Marketing Non-Executive Director

For the past 27 years Anthony gained vast knowledge with the medical devices sector and specific knowledge of the global wound care market. Anthony was a major driving force in the successful business growth for Molnlycke Healthcare a Global Market Leader and subsequently at Medtrade Products a fast-growing SME. At Medtrade over the past 6 years he defined a new strategic direction for this niche product developer and also grew a global sales network.  This helped the organisation to double digit growth year on year. Prior to joining Medtrade he was a key member of the management team at Molnlycke Health Care. Here he gained extensive general management experience during 3 years as MD for the UK business and strategic leadership expertise as Sales Director for the EMEA region. On the Executive Board with Molnlycke, Anthony successfully led company integration through mergers, acquisitions and strategic partnerships. With Fusion Implants Anthony is currently orchestrating the European & US distribution for Fusion Implants products.

Ben Walton, Clinical Research and Development Director

Ben is an RCVS Recognised Specialist in Small Animal Orthopaedics. He has published several papers in peer-reviewed journals and authored several continuing education articles. He lectures regularly to vets regionally and internationally.

He is also an Honorary Fellow of the School of Engineering, University of Liverpool and is the clinical supervisor of several engineering post-graduate students working on medical device development. Ben is the Clinical Research and Development Director of Fusion Implants, a veterinary orthopaedic implant developer and manufacturer specialising in 3D-printed titanium technology.

Dr. Paul Higham, Non-Executive Director

Dr. Paul Higham leads scientific affairs for AgNovos Healthcare.  In that role, Dr. Higham assesses the fundamental science underpinning the company’s technology platforms and current and future product portfolio.   Prior to joining AgNovos, Dr. Higham managed his own consulting company which focused on strategic projects for start-up medical technology companies.  In that capacity, he led the development of a novel drug-eluting technology for osteoarthritis as well as a novel hydrogel neurosurgical hemostat technology.  Dr. Higham has over thirty years of experience in R&D, product development, and business development at Pfizer and Stryker.  He holds 29 patents, USA, has 32 peer reviewed publications and  59 presentations at international conferences

He currently serves on the Board of Directors for  Fusion Implants.
